NABD Dealer Academy Highlights

With over 20 Years experience in the Automotive Industry I was asked by NABD president Ken Shilson to speak at the 2012 Dealer Academy that took place over the last couple of days. In recent years this academy was full of individuals in the industry that were searching for ways to improve their overall business methods and increase their bottom line, this year was no different as the room was filled with an audience eager to hear about the benefits of GPS tracking technology.

I presented last evening with one intention in mind, to lay out the actual benefits that BHPH dealerships can and will obtain with the use of these devices. Using the 2011 NABD survey as a reference and focal point I covered such topics as:


  • Methods and tools used to improve dealership operations and profitability
  • Payment Assurance and GPS
  • White Paper Intent
  • Identify user practices to develop best practices
  • Credit scores and the subprime market
  • Technology advancements


This study was conducted last year as a way to gain insight from the dealers; with this insight we as automotive solution providers can take that information gained and use it to improve and tailor our products as well as our services offered to those in the BHPH market. The study had definite conclusions that I feel are critical enough to outline once again.


79% of BHPH dealers believe using the disabling feature is a proactive tool

74% believe the use of devices has reduced delinquency rates by more than 10%

78% believe the disabling feature reduces the number of collectors needed

These statistics are staggering and as the credit situation continues to draw more and more dealers into the BHPH option I feel as though these numbers will significantly increase as more dealers are relying on GPS vehicle tracking as their number one asset protection.

With that in mind I also touched base on the industry’s first ever Buyer’s Guide that was created solely by the Spireon automotive solutions dealer group. Working for the industry leader and world’s largest supplier of GPS Vehicle Tracking solutions, our automotive solutions team felt an obligation to compile the most up-to-date information about GPS Vehicle Tracking and create an informative tool for Subprime Auto Finance and Buy Here Pay Here (BHPH) dealers looking to implement the GPS vehicle tracking solution into their business models.

We know that an educated decision is crucial in today’s environment, and we created the Buyer’s Guide in hopes that it will provide the necessary information to make an educated decision in a time when asset protection is critical.
